As with anything cannabinoid related, it’s hard to give standardized advice. That’s because each person’s body is different.
You don’t need the same supplements as anyone else in the world. You’re unique, your physical needs are unique, and your Endocannabinoid system (ECS) is unique.
All these variables create a situation where your CBD needs are unique. You have your own set of aches, pains, and struggles, and your ECS knows this.
The ECS is intelligent enough to regulate the processes in your body and only it can send CBD to the exact places you need to keep you feeling relaxed and comfortable. But, there are some general guidelines you can follow when deciding how much CBD you should take.
Keep reading to learn how to figure out what the perfect amount of CBD is for you!
Is The Dosage of CBD Important?
Figuring out the proper dose of CBD for your body is absolutely essential if you’re going to use CBD as a supplement. Why? Well, there’s a small chance that you can take too much CBD.
That doesn’t mean that you’re going to get “high” or have an uncomfortable experience. The opposite is actually much more likely.
If you take too large a dose of CBD there’s a chance you may just feel… really relaxed. This won’t be a bad thing, unless of course you need to productively move through your day.
A good way to avoid a high dose of CBD disrupting your day is to experiment with the amount you take. And, be sure to experiment at the end of the day.
That way, if you exceed your threshold, it won’t be too disruptive and you know to take less next time.
Once you have the proper amount for your body figured out, you can take CBD throughout the day. That doesn’t mean you have to, many people prefer to take CBD only at night, and there may be some benefits to doing that.
But if you know what a proper dose is for you, you at least have the option to take it whenever you want.
Find Your Minimum Effective Dose
The primary reason why you want to figure out the optimal dose for you, when taking CBD, is to avoid being wasteful. It may seem counterintuitive that a CBD company recommends you don’t take as much CBD as possible at all times.
But that would be wasteful, and redundant.
CBD can be incredibly beneficial, and for some people it doesn’t take a lot to notice those benefits. Ultimately, we want you to find your CBD sweet spot, and stick there.
There’s no need to push it to any extremes. Find what works for you and go with that.
Why take extra CBD when half that amount gives you the same benefit? This sweet spot is your minimum effect dose or MED, and it’s what you want to determine when you begin using CBD.
Knowing your MED will save you some money and make your ingestible CBD last longer. And your MED is really specific to you.
How Do You Find Your CBD Minimum Effective Dose?
The only way to find your specific MED is experimentation. That’s why it’s advisable to first try CBD in the evenings when your daily responsibilities have been dealt with.
When you first use CBD you’re just going to have to pay attention to how specific amounts make you feel. The goal is to feel some relief for whatever specific problem you’ve decided to use CBD for, but without feeling drowsy or out of it.
Of course, if you’ve decided to use CBD to help you sleep, then feeling drowsy may be a good thing. But that depends on you.
If you take CBD for general well-being, not to address a specific problem, then you may not look to notice a specific result. That’s fine too, and you can still use these general guidelines to help you find a good dose.
Whether you’re taking CBD for specific relief or you’re using it for general well-being, follow these suggestions when first trying it out.
- Make sure you take enough. Some people may recommend taking anywhere from ten to thirty milligrams of CBD. These amounts are not enough. Remember, there are no real consequences if you take too much CBD, except maybe feeling drowsy. So, don’t be afraid to take a bit extra. We suggest starting out in the sixty to one hundred milligram range.
- Pay attention to how you feel. You’re unique and how CBD reacts in your body is going to be unique too. The best way to figure out how much CBD you need to take is to listen to your body. Then you can adjust up or down depending on how you feel.
- Be consistent. Taking CBD sporadically may help you, but taking it consistently is where the true benefits begin to appear. CBD builds up in your system, as part of a process known as bioaccumulation. The more consistently you take it, daily or twice daily, the more compounding effects you’ll notice. And, after some time as it compounds, you may be able to reduce your dose because you need less to achieve the results you’re looking for.
The key thing to remember is that taking CBD is an experience unique to your body. Other people may recommend you do this or that, but you won’t know what’s best for you until you experiment with yourself.
Pay attention to how it makes you feel and after a week or two of trying different doses you’ll know where your sweet spot is.
Also, when starting out, be sure you get the proper strength.
You don’t want to have to use half a bottle of tincture just to reach your MED. The best strength to start out is in the mid-range. Somewhere around a 900 mg tincture is ideal.
