Keep Dogs, Cats, and Other Pets Safe During Fireworks with CBD for Pets

It’s that time of the year again where the booming sounds and flashing lights of fireworks can be heard any given night of the week. Spectating fireworks can be enjoyable for humans, but not so much for pets. The loud sounds and bright lights from fireworks may be a bit overwhelming for dogs, cats, and other pets alike—luckily, our CBD for pet line has you covered.

Help your pets keep their cool during Independence Day festivities. Here are our best tips to help your furry friends relax:

1. Keep your pet away from fireworks

Pets have strong senses, especially when it comes to loud noises, flashing lights, or strong smells. July 4 is the biggest day of the year for fireworks, so it’s definitely best to keep your pets indoors on Independence Day as well as the few days leading up to and succeeding the holiday. Some pet owners find it helpful to leave the TV or radio on for pets at home during fireworks, as it dulls down the booming noises. Otherwise, if you plan on bringing your pet to festivities with you, make sure that your pet is leashed and under control at all times.

2. Ask a vet for help

If you know your dog is already sensitive when it comes to loud noises like thunder, it’s likely that fireworks will be a problem as well. Ask your veterinarians about medications and medical techniques that may help alleviate your animal’s anxiety and fear.

3. Keep your pet cool—literally

Heat can be another factor in the stress your pet may be under in the hot summer months. Be sure to keep your pet away from full sun and heat for long periods of time throughout the day. A full day at the beach may be relaxing for you, but not su much for your pet (especially if they aren’t able to cool down in the water!). Keep an eye on your pet and make sure you know the signs of heatstroke.

4. Make sure your pet is equipped with proper identification

When pets get scared, they can tend to run away. With all the loud noises around, make sure your pet is equipped with proper identification and ID tags in case they become lost. Even if you don’t think there’s a chance anything could happen, it’s always better to be safe than sorry. In addition, if you find a lost pet this Fourth of July holiday weekend, either take them to the address on their tag or bring them to a local animal shelter where their chip can be scanned and the animal can be successfully reunited with its family.
