The Agricultural Improvement Act of 2018, or the 2018 Farm Bill, was an $867 billion package that was signed into law by President Donald Trump in December 2018.
What did the bill do for the hemp industry?
It’s no secret that hemp is on the side as a potential new crop for farmers. The bill legalized the production and growth of hemp as an agricultural commodity, while removing hemp from a list of controlled substances. In turn, policymakers and the general public have shown increasing interest in the crop, and multiple new companies have started selling CBD products online.
The bill outlines certain violations, stating that any plant producing higher than a 0.3% content of THC without a license is a violation of law. In addition, the bills sets up both state and federal regulation authority over hemp meaning that the state must take the time to develop plans and procedures for hemp laws to be submitted to the US secretary of agriculture for approval.
Is it legal to buy CBD products online?
Because of the 2018 Farm Bill, cultivation, processing, distribution, and sale of hemp and CBD products online is now allowed across the United States.
